Lunch at our Kiwi bach in the Abel Tasman National Park

"A great day trip with an easy guided walk, local stories, plenty of variety, and good coverage of the Abel Tasman National Park through utilising water taxis". Maree

Your adventure begins at beautiful, tidal Marahau where you and your guide begin the Abel Tasman Coastal Track. You will walk for just under two hours through lush native bush bordered by pristine golden beaches. The track then winds down to our authentic 'kiwi' bach built early last century. Here you will learn about this historic getaway while you and your fellow explorers relax and have a leisurely lunch followed by a swim or beach stroll.

Early afternoon you and your guide are uplifted by a water taxi. You then cruise north along the Abel Tasman coastline past deserted beaches and secluded bays - hopefully seeing some playful seals or penguins on the way. You disembark for a short time at Onetahuti Beach, before travelling by water taxi out of the Abel Tasman to Kaiteriteri, arriving mid to late afternoon.

(Note: Please enquire for shorter walk option, and personal guided walks)

"This is a trip for those who still want a cruise and the local history, but prefer walking and the bush rather than the longer cruise option. Still plenty of time for a swim and some relaxing on the beach but a more active day overall". Maree

Your day starts off the same as the Kiwi Bach, Seals and Cruise Guided Walk, however following lunch you continue walking north for approximately 2 hours through regenerating bush with spectacular sea views over Astralabe Roadstead and Anchorage.

You then walk down the ridge into Anchorage where you can enjoy the beach or rest under the shady trees while you wait for your water taxi back to kaiteriteri.

Sea kayaking in the Abel Tasman National Park

"Yes you do have to paddle, no you do not need to be an experienced kayaker. This is a great little trip for those with only one day who want to both walk and kayak in the Abel Tasman.". Maree

If you would like to be just a little adventurous with your one day in the Abel Tasman, this is the trip for you. A relatively easy guided walk (31/4hrs) on the Abel Tasman Coastal Track. This is followed by a delicious lunch, then a guided kayak (approx. 3hrs) through the sheltered waters of Astralabe Roadstead.

This trip leaves from the beautiful seaside enclave of Kaiteriteri. Here you board a water taxi with your guide and boat to Split Apple Rock to view one of our local wonders. You then travel into the Abel Tasman National Park to Appletree Bay where your walk begins through lush native bush with amazing sea views. Learn about New Zealand's flora and fauna, and local stories about the characters of the Abel Tasman. If the tides are right, and there is time, you will visit our 'kiwi' bach on the beachfront where time has stood still.

At midday you will walk down to Watering Cove, a golden beach with clear blue water and lunch waiting. Here your guide for the morning will hand your group into the care of your kayak guide and the next stage of your adventure will begin. Before getting into your double kayak you will be briefed on how to kayak, and all safety aspects. You will then paddle south, back to Marahau, travelling past beautiful beaches, islands, sea caves, reefs, and tidal lagoons. Your friendly and experienced kayak guide sharing their knowledge and tales of the Abel Tasman.

"This is a great worry free two days. Cruising, walking, and relaxing in our beautiful accommodation. All you have to worry about is what vintage of wine you are going to enjoy on your deck in the evenings". Maree

Arrive at your accommodation, Riwaka Retreat, and relax on the deck or go for an evening stroll around the nearby estuary. Following a scrumptious breakfast the next day you will be driven to Marahau where you and your guide will begin our Kiwi Bach to Anchorage guided walk in the Abel Tasman. After approximately two hours walk through lush native bush you will come to our delightful historic 'kiwi' bach. Following a delicious picnic lunch and time to relax you will continue walking north to Anchorage.

Late afternoon you will be returned to Riwaka Retreat (30 mins by boat), enjoying the Abel Tasman coastline on the way - look out for penguins and sea birds. That evening you can take the opportunity to sample some of the excellent eating houses in Motueka, Kaiteriteri or on the coast. Alternatively you may wish to 'stay in', light up your Barbie(BBQ) and cook your own meal.

The following day you and your guide leave from Kaiteriteri and travel by boat back into the Abel Tasman. You continue walking north exploring to either Bark Bay or Onetahuti. At the end of the day you are returned to Riwaka Retreat for your last night as our guest.

Second Day Option: Do you only want one day of hiking? After one day on the land of the Abel Tasman, make day two on the sea. Join a catamaran cruising the Abel Tasman coast. Delicious platter style lunch supplied. Maximum of 10 clients.
